In case you didn’t notice…

According to a survey by Consumer Reports, Americans prefer drugs to talk therapy. Those surveyed said they improved just as much after seven or more sessions of talk therapy as if they took drugs and it did not matter if the therapist was a psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker. Nearly 80 percent of people who had been diagnosed with depression or anxiety were prescribed antidepressants.

It’s easy to criticize this finding at first, but really, should we expect anything else? After all, even with insurance, talk therapy is often not covered (around $120 per session), whereas insurance might allow you to get antidepressants for about $15 (or less) per month.
